Trained safety professionals are in high demand. (Courses in the certificate program can also be used for credit if accepted into the diploma program, subject to a passing grade of 70% and department approval.) The passing grade for all of the diploma courses is 70%. Many of the diploma program courses have lab work as well as lecture time, and some of the courses include field trips and worksite projects. In this program, students take a full range of science and math courses, communications courses, and business courses, in addition to all the specialized courses in health and safety topics. Some twenty students are accepted into the two-year diploma program each September. Diploma program: offered full-time, face-to-face day program at Burnaby campus.The passing grade for all Certificate program courses is 60%. Although some of the Certificate program courses involve worksite assignments, there are no lab or field trip activities.

Unlike the Diploma program, the Certificate program does not include science, math, business, or communications courses. This program covers a wide range of topics in occupational health and safety - applicable to a diverse array of industry sectors.

Certificate program: offered in part-time studies (PTS), as a distance education option -servicing students across Canada from coast-to-coast-to-coast.

BCIT's OH&S Certificate and OH&S DiplomaīCIT actually offers two types of post-secondary programs in occupational health and safety: However, BCIT's programs tend to be more comprehensive than many of the other college-level offerings, while at the same time being more accessible than the university postgraduate programs.īCIT's OH&S programs are primarily intended for people who will be practicing within Canada, although they are open to students from anywhere (subject to the usual entrance requirements of BCIT). BCIT is one of a number of institutions in Canada that offer OH&S programs at the post-secondary level.
